The Story Of Us- Preview

Hi. My name is Toyama Reika, and I’m seventeen and a junior at Seiyo Academy. I’m part of a group called the Guardians, with some of my best friends, Tadase, Amu, Nagihiko, Rima, and Yaya.

My life… well, it’s complicated. I’ll shorten the long story for you. In fourth grade, my parents got a divorce. In sixth grade, my baby sister, Tsuneka, died. My dad went to jail, and my mom left my older brother, Kouta, and I. So we packed up our stuff and moved from Tokyo to Seiyo. There… Kouta became friends with Souma Kukai. I became friends with the Guardians, and life was pretty good. Then… I fell in love with Kukai. We started going out for a while… and my dad was released from jail. And my mom came back. My family moved to the perfect house and then Kukai and I started dating. I thought life was as close as perfect as it could be.

Before my family moved, the Guardians and I went to America for the end of the school year to visit our friend Miliko. Well… Kukai and I got in a huge fight and broke up. But we got back together. When we came back, that’s when my family moved. Our house was right next to Kukai’s. Life was blissful. Then Kukai moved… and life hasn’t been the same.

Still a pretty long story, right? And I said it was shortened. Told you my life was complicated. So now I live with my parents and older brother Kouta, next to an empty house that used to be full of the excitement of the Souma family.

When Kukai moved, we promised each other a lot. That we’d fly back and forth for birthdays, and he’d come out for Christmas, and that we wouldn’t date anyone while he was gone. Well… that was in eighth grade. Now I’m a junior.

A lot of things have happened in that time span of three years. Nagihiko and Rima are together, and Kairi and Yaya are together. Amu and Ikuto just recently celebrated their 1 year anniversary. Tadase found a girl for himself; Kyoko.

So back to Kukai and I. Last time I saw him was Christmas of my freshman year. He hasn’t come for Christmas since then. I haven’t even heard from him in six months.

So… Kukai’s broken almost all the promises he made me.

The biggest one? He promised me he’d come back.

He hasn’t yet.

And I doubt he will.
