“What now?” I asked softly once we were far enough away from the school.
“We run,” Erifee answered, simply, blatantly.
“It’s not every day the Minotaur comes after you,” Elysia sighed.
“Where do we go?”
“I don’t know. But let’s meet back here at five, okay?”
Erifee stopped walking, turning to face us.
“Yeah, sure,” I agreed warily. It was three now, that gave me two hours to get my stuff together.
“Okay.”
After bidding goodbye, we all turned a separate way to go home.
After reaching my home, I took a shower to wash off all traces of the Minotaur. After taking a long hot shower, I stepped out, twisting my hair up in a towel. After blow drying it I went to get dressed.
Only two things were in my mind as I chose clothes- comfort and combat.
I didn’t know how long we’d be out so I wanted something that was comfortable as well as good for combat.
I dressed in a pair of stretchy, soft skinny jeans and a dark red tank-top. I pulled on socks then tied on my boots, glad they were combat boots yet extremely comfortable.
How on earth did that happen?
I tied my hair back into a high ponytail after brushing out the raven black locks flowing from my head.
I heard the door swing open from downstairs and gasped. My aunt and uncle were home. What could I do except explain what happened?
I jogged down the stairs, my boots clunking loudly.
“Kym, what are you doing home so early?” my aunt asked.
“I… I… The Minotaur showed up at our school today. Elysia, Erifee and I took it down, but… we have to run.”
My aunt gave a slow nod, as if she understood. “I knew this day would come.”
“You… you did?”
“Yes, and I’ve prepared for it.”
My aunt walked to her room, and I followed along, curiously. She crouched in front of her closet and searched around a moment before pulling out a box.
We sat on her bed together as she slowly opened the dusty box. Out came a bag of squares of ambrosia and a canteen of nectar. The food and drink of gods, Elysia told me about it.
My aunt gave me a sad look as she handed them to me, watching as I gently put them in my book bag which I had emptied of school things.
Then out came a leather bag fastened shut with a leather cord. She untied in and I saw the Greek currency of gods, drachmas.
I placed that, as well, into my bag. Then the thing I expected the least.
My aunt handed me a bag full of money. Mortal money.
“I-I can’t take this!” I said frantically, pushing it back into her hands. It held hundred dollar bills, many of them.
My aunt gave me a look that said, ‘I don’t give a shit, you’re going to take it,’ and put it in my bag.
I gave a slow nod, and swung my book bag onto my shoulders after tossing in a few bottles of water.
With Wisdom secure on my right hand, supplies on my back, and a feeling of safety now that I knew what had to be done…
I went to meet Erifee and Elysia.
I went to begin our journey.
